Associate Teacher, Lower School (Preschool - 4th Grade) Start Date: August 31st, 2026
Salary: Associate Teacher salaries at the School for Children follow a fixed scale based on year in the program. Salaries are not subject to negotiation. The annual rates are: - Year 1: $45,300
- Year 2: $46,500
- Year 3: $47,700
Schedule: This role is a 10-month position. The standard hours for this position are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays, and until 5:00 PM on Wednesdays for a weekly afternoon faculty meeting. This role also includes occasional work outside of school hours which may include early mornings, evenings, or overnight trips. About Bank Street Children's Programs

General Description: Bank Street is looking for a passionate, team-oriented Associate Teacher. The Associate Teacher will work with a Head Teacher to act as the homeroom teacher for a class of students and teach a number of subjects including math, reading, writing, and social studies. The Associate Teacher will work with the Head Teacher to support all aspects of student growth, including their academic, social-emotional and executive functioning. The ideal candidate will have an interest in working within a progressive school. Responsibilities:
- Along with the Head Teacher, act as homeroom teacher for each student, supporting their social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development - Support the curriculum plans of the cooperating teacher and age-level and gradually assume increased responsibilities, including opportunities to facilitate children's small and whole group work. - Teaching and documenting curriculum under the guidance of the Head Teacher and supervisor. Curriculum topics include the teaching of math, social studies, reading, writing, and other topics as may arise or be assigned. Teaching should be responsive to children's developmental capacities and needs - Help build a collaborative, cooperative, and reflective approach to working as a classroom teaching team and as an age-level teaching team. - Communicating and collaborating regularly with families and others who support the learning and growth of students. This includes sharing progress and concerns with families through conferences, written reports, and other methods as assigned. - Participate in the use of observing and recording methods, assessment practices, and management supports as related to individual children, small groups, and the whole class. - Gain skills and understanding of progressive education approaches supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth and development of particular age groups. - Attend and participate in weekly meetings with faculty and leaders. Meetings include age-level planning meetings, student support meetings, supervision meetings, faculty meetings after school, and other meetings as may arise from the work. - Lead the classroom and lessons on days when the Head Teacher is out or as needed by your supervisor. - Help design, organize, and maintain a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. This includes daily classroom morning set-up and evening clean-up. - Assume community coverage roles. These roles include bus arrival, lobby support, bus dismissal, subbing for other teachers, lunch, and recess. - Other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree - Experience teaching 3 - 10 year-old children preferred - Preference to be enrolled as a graduate student at Bank Street College for the 2026 - 2027 school year - Experience with Google Suite, and adept at use of technology to support teaching and learning - Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal - An ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administration - A commitment to professional development and lifelong learning - Being committed to addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community
