Reports to: Head of Middle School (primarily) and Head of Lower School (secondarily)
Position Summary:
Sycamore School seeks an experienced Learning Resource Specialist for its middle school and lower school students (4th - 8th grade) for the 2025 - 2026 school year. The primary focus of this position is to provide individual and small group academic intervention and support as needed or called for by diagnosis in Lower and Middle School. The secondary focus is to provide support for students with dysregulation/behavior concerns in conjunction with the Psychologist. This position also coordinates efforts with the PS-3rd Grade Learning Resource Specialist and the Psychologist.

Student-related responsibilities
Support diagnosed and suspected learning and behavioral student needs for students in Grades 4th - 8th.
Classroom observations as needed or in response to concerns/requests by classroom teachers.
Teach courses in executive functioning and coach students in these skills.
Lead a supported study hall.
Develop students’ independence from learning support structures as they progress through Middle School.
Faculty-related responsibilities
Support subject area and homeroom teachers with use of effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment methods.
Work with classroom teachers to perform benchmark assessments throughout the year.
Provide creative recommendations for teachers in Universal Design in order to expand methods for students to demonstrate achievement.
Administration-related responsibilities
Facilitate screening assessments.
Provide timely written summaries of observations.
Maintain complete and updated records of students served and share with appropriate classroom teachers, division heads, and families.
Complete and maintain progress monitoring data on students receiving services.
Identify students requiring outside testing and notify division heads for them to make referral in coordination with the Psychologist.
Serve as a liaison and coordinate information gathering between teachers and outside professionals.
Work with faculty, administration, and learning resource staff, to develop strategy plans documenting classroom accommodations based on diagnoses.
Work with classroom teachers to develop successful student plans and accommodations and ensure that such plans and accommodations are being met.
Attend Middle School and Lower school division meetings.
Parent-related responsibilities
Maintain complete and updated records of students served and share with families.
Ensure that learning resource plan meetings with families are held regularly as determined by division heads.
Other duties as directed by supervisor, division heads and/or Head of School.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, special education, or related field.
An understanding and appreciation for 2e students, as well as gifted characteristics.
Direct successful experience working with 2e students.
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
High degree of comfort and skill with technology both for organization and for student support.
Creative problem-solving.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to grow professionally and learn new techniques that would help 2e students and classroom teachers.
