Position Summary:
Sycamore School seeks an experienced counselor for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. The role of the counselor is to intervene with students to support their social and emotional learning and mental health needs. The counselor will also collaborate with faculty, administrators, and parents to ensure clear communication and continuity of support.
Responsibilities
Student-related responsibilities
Implement and facilitate SEL (Social Emotional Learning) programming
Provide individual counseling
Facilitate small group counseling & skill building groups
Response to urgent crisis issues
Directly support students with high emotional needs
Respond and intervene to grade level requests
Observe in classrooms in response to concerns
Support 2e (twice-exceptional) students in coordination with Learning Resource Team
Faculty-related responsibilities
Participate on student support teams regarding behavioral, social, emotional, mental health, and achievement concerns
Attend faculty meetings and committees
Communication responsibilities
Document direct services with students
Communication with teachers and parents regarding behavioral, social, emotional, mental health, and achievement concerns as needed in accordance with confidentiality guidelines
Other duties as directed by supervisor and/or Head of School
Sycamore School is an independent, co-educational day school, accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States, that serves the needs of over 400 academically gifted students in preschool through grade 8. Founded in 1985, Sycamore is the only school in Indiana and one of few in the nation where the entire program is designed to meet the needs of gifted learners.
