Overview
The Eliot-Pearson Children's School is the laboratory-demonstration school affiliated with the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University. The school serves as a model and demonstration facility, providing a training and observation site for new and experienced teachers and a research facility for faculty and supervised students in the Department of Child Study and Human Development. The Children's School enrolls approximately 65 children. It has preschool and PreK-K and Kindergarten to first grade classes that vary in length and frequency.
What You'll Do
The Assistant Teacher supports head teachers in providing a high quality, inclusive education and care for children in the preschool classrooms. The position facilitates teaching and learning opportunities for children and families at the school and ensures their health and safety. The Assistant Teacher supports the classroom team in working with children 3-6 years old and also fulfills a state required teacher-child ratio and practices at the school. The Assistant Teacher will also handle the below duties:
Assists and collaborate in curriculum planning, integration, delivery and implementation.
Assists and collaborate with teachers in conducting ongoing observation and assessment of children’s learning.
Assists with classroom management.
Assist with family partnership and engagement.
Assist in the integration and implementation of the school’s core values and philosophy.
Create documentation with coaching and support of head teacher to support learning and the curriculum, and to encourage collective inquiry and reflection among children, teachers and parents.
Use technology (digital cameras, computers) to support the documentation process.
Works with children who have special needs and receive special services in collaboration with the head teacher in the classroom.
Attends bi-weekly supervision and coaching meetings with the head teacher. Attend and contribute to monthly staff meetings and school-wide inquiries.
Works with families to ensure home school connections and family engagement.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by aa Associates’ Degree and 2 -3 years related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Pay Range
Minimum $18.80, Midpoint $21.85, Maximum $24.90
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
