Job Description: The SKyTeach Program at Western Kentucky University is accepting applications for non-tenured track Professionals in Residence to serve as Master Teacher, mathematics education emphasis beginning in August 2022.
Master Teachers are the core component of WKU's SKyTeach program to prepare mathematics and science teachers. Master Teachers serve as mentors, models, and guides to undergraduate mathematics and science education students.
Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to perform the following functions: (1) assist faculty in teaching a range of science/mathematics education courses at the undergraduate level in face-to-face, on-line and interactive video formats (2) organize, coordinate, supervise and evaluate student field work, (3) provide academic assistance and mentoring to SKyTeach students, (4) initiate and coordinate programs with local public schools and other educational organizations, (5) assist with program administrative duties, (6) serve on department and program committees and (6) engage collaborative projects with colleagues at WKU and other UTeach replication sites. In addition, applicants should have a commitment to K-12 outreach and expertise in the teaching of inquiry and STEM based science and/or mathematics content and/or pedagogy to all students.
Job Requirements:- Masters degree and secondary or middle grades teacher certification in a mathematics discipline
- Experience working with diverse student populations and the ability to prepare undergraduate students to work with diverse student populations
- Significant technology skills and the ability to deliver instruction in alternative formats
- At least five years of demonstrated expertise in science or mathematics teaching experience in K-12 schools
- Knowledge of the standards and habits of mind governing K-12 science and mathematics instruction as well as experience with 5E inquiry-based pedagogy
