Job Summary:
Music teachers report to their respective Principals, as well as the Music Department Chair. Music teachers are responsible for the planning, implementation, and delivery of the curriculum, as well as supervision of students both in and outside of the classroom. They must also work collaboratively with members of their own department, administration, faculty, and support staff, throughout the entire School.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 4th grade general music and 5th grade choir.
- Work collaboratively with music colleagues in a co-teaching environment to meet student needs.
- Monitor and report on the performance of students, recognize problems, and coordinate with administrators, other teachers, and parents, to correct identified problems. The Music Department consists of sixteen faculty members, supported by a project manager.Â
- Responsible for the music education of students in grades nursery through twelve. Courses taught by the Music Department include general music, band, choir, orchestra, jazz band, music history, music theory, and digital music production.Â
- Actively pursue professional development in the areas of pedagogy, teaching techniques, and technology relevant to the field and subject, to provide students with a learning experience of the highest quality.Â
- Participate in the scheduled concerts for each academic year (at present, each ensemble performs an average of two concerts per academic year).
- Instructing and supervising 3rd - 5th grade students providing music classroom instruction; creating a nurturing, challenging, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that fosters mutual respect and age-appropriate levels of independence and collaboration; monitoring the performance of students and communicating concerns with administrators, other teachers, and learning/counseling faculty, and parents.
- This is a part-time position. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- The anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2022.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Education: Â Â Â
- Bachelor's degree in music education required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Kodaly training required.
- Orff training preferred.
- Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred.
Experience: Â
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with Lower School (grades 3-5) students in a general music and choral setting
- Experience developing Kodaly curriculum preferred.
- Piano experience preferred.
- Experience working with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language, and nationality. Â
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
- Strong knowledge of course subject matter required.
- Knowledge of instructional methodologies required.
- Strong knowledge of child development required.
- Develop curricula, lesson plans, and assessment tools required.
- Use standard productivity software (Microsoft Office, calendar/schedule software, etc.) required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
- Move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.
- When appropriate, escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building during arrival and dismissal, and in an emergency situation.
