Schedule: This role is a 10-month position, and is in the Professional Employees' Federation (PEF), the union for faculty members at Bank Street College. The hours for this position are 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays, and may need to start an hour early once a week for Lower or Upper School assembly support. This role also includes occasional work that may happen outside of typical school hours such as event support and overnight trip support.

About the Position Bank Street School for Children seeks a full-time French Teacher. We seek a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative French educator who is committed to the continued development of a cohesive World Language program. The teacher will report to the Upper School Division Head and be responsible for providing an engaging French language curriculum for Grades 3 and 8, as well as providing enrichment classes for children of the ages of 4-10 in Bank Street's After School Program. Please note that we do not offer sponsorship for candidates who need visas to work in the United States. Candidates who are also fluent in Spanish and have experience teaching Spanish will be given preferential consideration.
Responsibilities - Plan and document well-structured, differentiated lessons appropriate to the abilities of all students and the curriculum being taught that are consistent with progressive pedagogy - Ensure that the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates communication - Generate enthusiasm for the subject being taught and inspire all students to work to their potential - Participate in World Language Team meetings, collaborating with other World Language Teachers, with the aim of having a comprehensive and aligned curriculum across all ages and coherent experience for students - Collaborate closely with school administrators and other school staff around curriculum as well as student social-emotional and academic needs - Teach some classes for our After School program as assigned and within working hours. Liaise with the After School Program leadership team to offer an engaging and interactive after school enrichment class for SFC students. After School students may be a range of ages. - Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to studying and build productive relationships with students - Assign homework which is in alignment to school policies and appropriate in terms of volume and learning goals - Assess student's work accurately and regularly, giving thoughtful and meaningful feedback. - Keep curricular materials up to date and systematically housed within the school's designated system where they are accessible to others - Communicate with families about student progress as needed via email, phone call, or in-person meetings - Complete student narrative reports according to guidelines and deadlines - Attend World Language Team, Lower School, and School for Children Faculty Meetings, as well as other meetings which arise during the school year - Participate in faculty affinity groups and engage in self-examination of identity - Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through curriculum and instruction - Attend to other duties as assigned which support the school, including but not limited to: assigned bus duties, cafeteria duties, recess duties, ad hoc substituting, homeroom advisory, etc.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in French or equivalent education; Master's degree in education preferable - Fluency in French - Knowledge of child development, progressive education, and constructivist teaching - Experience teaching World Languages - Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity - Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills - Skilled in designing instruction that is data-driven, differentiated, and actively engaging - Experience in developing hands-on, developmentally appropriate French curricula - Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration
