Will be supervising students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students’ permanent teacher of their success.
1. Duties in relationship to individual children and in groups
plan short and long-term goals and objectives in all developmental areas
plan and implement educational program that focuses on the developmental needs of the children
keep attendance and daily records, plan appropriate snacks and write
annual (nursery school) or bi-annual (special ed) reports
evaluate children using observational and standardized means as appropriate
participate in planning for future placement of children with team
maintain safe and organized physical environment for children
collect appropriate data for research projects as required
2. Duties in relationship to other staff
supervise and evaluate aides
co-ordinate appropriate case management with other professional team members
communicate effectively with team members
maintain regular communication with Program Director, Laboratory Coordinator and teachers
attend all staff meetings
maintain positive professional work environment
attend in-service meetings as appropriate
3. Duties in relationship to parents
maintain regular contact with parents
work to enhance parental skills and understanding of their child’s development
conduct home visits as appropriate
participate in parent social and educational functions
conduct bi-annual formal parent conferences (December and May – special ed; November and May – nursery school)
4. Duties in relationship to school systems and support agencies
attend Planning and Placement Team meetings as appropriate and case management meetings
make recommendations for future placements when appropriate
5. Duties in relationship to college students
supervise and evaluate practicum participants
provide feedback to administration and students concerning practicum and written assignments
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field. Connecticut State Teacher Education Certification and/or Master’s Degree preferred. Within four months of hire, the selected candidate must be designated as eligible to have unsupervised access to children in a child care center by the CT Commissioner of Early Childhood. Minimum of one-year working with young children necessary.
