BAWP is a professional development organization of, by, and for teachers of writing at all grade levels and in all disciplines. BAWP is dedicated to improving the teaching and uses of writing through a variety of programs-both on the university campus and in the schools of the Bay Area.
With its inaugural Summer Institute in 1974, BAWP became the first Writing Project site, subsequently influencing the establishment of the California and National Writing Project networks. For the past 50 years, BAWP's successful model of leadership and learning has hinged on the idea that the 'best teachers of teachers are other teachers.' As such, BAWP offers professional development workshops for in-service educators, led by Teacher Consultants.
