Bank Street School for Children Start Date: Monday, September 23, 2024 Role: Afterschool Drama Teacher (Part-Time)
Schedule: One Day Weekly (Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays and will be determined during the hiring process) 3:00PM - 5:00PM (2 sessions for age levels 6/7s - 7/8s and 8/9s - 9/10s) September 2024 - June 2025 adhering to the BSC calendar Opportunity for occasional substitute work
Pay Rate: $40 - $60 Per Hour (commensurate with experience)
Job Summary: We are seeking a creative and passionate Drama Teacher to lead an after school course focused on age-appropriate self-expression and theatrical production. The Drama Teacher will collaborate with the Afterschool Supervisor and Administrative Team to develop and implement curricula tailored to specific age groups, including 6/7s-7/8s and 8/9s-9/10s. The course will culminate in a small theatrical production, which will be shared with the families of the participating students at the end of the semester.
Responsibilities: - Collaborate with administrators and supervisors to create and implement age-appropriate drama curricula. - Guide students in choosing, rehearsing, and mounting a small theatrical production. - Build positive relationships with students, fostering a supportive and focused classroom environment. - Utilize effective classroom management skills to maintain an energetic and safe learning space, following health and safety guidelines. - Ensure students move safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during program hours, adhering to all building-wide safety regulations. - Oversee the safe dismissal of students to authorized adults at the end of each session. - Actively participate in the Afterschool program, sharing information and strategies with colleagues to support a healthy classroom community.
Qualifications: - High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred. - Experience teaching drama to children in the specified age groups is preferred. - Strong classroom management skills, particularly with younger children. - Familiarity with progressive education principles is a plus. - Previous experience within the Bank Street community is an advantage. - Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, with a commitment to developing skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the entire class.
