Role: Afterschool Chess Teacher (Part-Time)
Schedule:
One Day Weekly (Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays and will be determined during the hiring process)
3:00PM - 5:00PM (2 sessions for age levels 6/7s - 7/8s and 8/9s - 9/10s)
September 2024 - June 2025 adhering to the BSC calendar
Opportunity for occasional substitute work

Pay Rate: $40 - $60 Per Hour (commensurate with experience)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Chess Teacher to lead an after school course that fosters a deep understanding of chess strategy and skills. The Chess Teacher will work closely with the Afterschool Administrative Team to develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that meets students at their individual skill levels.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Afterschool Administrative Team to create and deliver an engaging, age-appropriate chess curriculum.
- Build positive relationships with students, promoting respect, focus, and sportsmanship.
- Apply effective classroom management skills to maintain an energetic and safe learning environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Actively participate in a cooperative Afterschool program, sharing strategies and insights to support a healthy classroom community.
- Ensure students move safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during program hours, following all building-wide safety regulations.
- Supervise the safe dismissal of students to authorized adults at the end of each session.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience teaching chess to children of various age groups is preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills, particularly with younger children.
- Familiarity with progressive education principles is a plus.
- Previous experience within the Bank Street community is an advantage.
- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, with a commitment to developing skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the entire class.
