New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education position in NYU's Mathematics Education programs, including our campus-based Early Childhood, Childhood, and Secondary Mathematics Education programs, and in the NYU Teacher Residency in Mathematics Education. This is a 12-month position with the potential for extension, including for multi-year contracts. This position will begin in September 2024. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Department of Teaching and Learning. POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are hiring for a 12-month non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education position in New York City. We seek a candidate with background and expertise in mathematics education at the childhood or secondary level, with a focus on urban education. Expertise in computer science education is a plus. Candidate will join a closely collaborative program faculty and receive coordinated mentorship along multiple dimensions related to pedagogy, scholarship and/or community engagement, participation in the university community, and other aspects of professional life.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach in-person courses and online modules in the department's mathematics education program. Mentor preservice teachers to understand the historical and institutional inequities often reproduced in mathematics education and develop practices and tools for supporting the learning and well-being of their students. Contribute to the intellectual life, community engagements, and internal development of the department. Collaborate with mathematics education and other department faculty and staff in ongoing departmental initiatives, including developing and implementing professional learning communities for Resident Teachers, Teaching Mentors, and program graduates; assisting in the facilitation of program orientations and other recruitment events; participating in assessment and revision of programs to continually improve and respond to current issues of urban education.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $135,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in mathematics education, mathematics teacher education, or a related field is required, as well as proven excellence as a teacher and strong scholarship in the professional fields of math education and urban education. We particularly seek a scholar with additional expertise in computer science education. Minimum of 5 years experience teaching and/or working in complex urban settings required, and demonstrated experience coaching and building leadership capacity in new and experienced teachers. We seek candidates who have demonstrated experience in and passion for work with young people in urban schools.
