To oversee and manage the teacher certification application process. To manage the verifying eligibility in compliance with the University and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) policies and regulations, completing certification documents, and monitoring and communicating changes to certification requirements and assessments to all stakeholders. To advise certified personnel on coursework needed to maintain, update and retain ALSDE certification, preparing related records and reports as required by the University and ALSDE, and performing related professional and administrative work. The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Manages all certification activities and ensuring compliance with policies and requirements of the University, individual educator preparation programs, the ALSDE, and accreditation bodies.
* Reviews, comprehends, and applies the University and ALSDE standards for admission and completion of individual educator preparation programs.
* Keeps abreast of ALSDE regulations regarding teacher certification; monitors and ensures UAB-SOE compliance with all laws and regulations.
* Provides certification information to programs and responds to information requests from faculty, staff, school district administration, and teacher candidates regarding ALSDE certification requirements.
* Analyzes and prepares reports as required by the University and ALSDE.
* Oversees applications for the Interim Employment Certificate through ALSDE, involving communication with local school districts, ALSDE, individual educator preparation programs, and teacher candidates.
* Oversees the process of teacher candidates transferring coursework and the completion of out-of-state verification forms.
* Serves as a liaison to the assigned ALSDE Educator Certification Specialist.
* Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Executive Director of The Office of Student Services.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range: $41,175.00 - $56,000.00
