Position Summary:
For over 50 years, UCI has provided high-quality early care and education for the children of students, staff, faculty, and the community. The foundation of our work with children begins with developmentally appropriate practice, which is an approach to teaching grounded in the research on how young children develop and learn and in what is known about effective early education. All of our programs are licensed by the Department of Social Services-Community Care Licensing Division. We follow all Title 22 rules and regulations, as well as Title 5 California Educational Code Regulations (for our subsidized centers). The indoor and outdoor environment, as well as the program curriculum, are planned and facilitated by teachers who maintain Child Development Permits, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Our centers provide nurturing and engaging environments where children make connections, are supported in their desire to explore and develop into healthy, compassionate, and creative individuals. The Infant Toddler Center offers a full-day program for children aged three months to 30 months. The center provides breakfast, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack, as well as diapers, wipes, and formula. The center serves UCI students, staff, and faculty, and subsidized tuition is available to eligible student families through a grant from the State Department of Education.
As part of a teaching team, responsible for the supervision and care of 6 infants or 8 toddlers. Duties include: Using available resources to ensure a quality program for infants and toddlers. Using developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning practices and articulating those to parents and aides. Promoting good health, good nutrition and safety. Providing a respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationship with each child and their family. Working closely with other primary caregivers to ensure continuity of care. Continuing to grow professionally.

$22.83 - $32.35 (hourly)
Required:
Must have six units of Infant Toddler course work
Current California Child Development Program Permit.
Documentation of absence of active tuberculosis. Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
Ability to find satisfaction and enjoyment in providing quality care for very young children. Ability to work effectively with adults, teachers, student staff, parents and director. Energy and resourcefulness. Ability to mentor teachers, field study students, aides and parents. Highly motivated to continue learning about infants and toddlers from observation, experience, research theories, consultation with parents, other caregivers and early childhood professionals.
Enjoys applying this knowledge in daily program and minute-to-minute decision making with children. Values solving problems constructively in the daily work and in interrelationships with children, parents and co-workers. Appreciation of cultures, customs, languages, and child rearing practices different from one's own. Patience and warmth with very young children.
Ability to build a warm affectionate relationship with each child and family. Good physical and mental health. Acceptance and appreciation of normal developmental characteristics of the first three years of life (dependency, willfulness, drive toward autonomy, etc.), the early years of parenting and adolescent care giving aides.
