The Childhood Development Lab is seeking to fill three (3) Lead Teacher positions. These are full-time 1.00 FTE, 9-month, professional faculty positions.
The Head Teacher will be responsible for modeling effective, developmentally appropriate teaching strategies for two sections of the HDFS 430 course, implementing one prekindergarten class of 20 children, addressing the early education requirements of the Child Development Lab's Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program, and meeting state licensing and national accreditation regulations.
The Head Teacher will establish a safe prekindergarten environment, teach the class of young children, conduct education and development screenings and assessments, identify, address, and track early education goals for individual children. They will conduct parent and teacher conferences and home visits required by the center model for the purposes of screening assessment, support and goal-setting and for sharing information on parenting, home/center activities, educational strategies and developmental progress in conjunction with families.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Development, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or closely related field. 3 years of experience working with early childhood education programs or populations. First Aid/CPR Certification. May require additional certification as appropriate to the program/position.
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Elementary Education or Human Development & Family Sciences with coursework in Child Development and Early Childhood Education.
Three years teaching experience working with children ages 3-5 in a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom setting.
Experience developing curriculum and planning and scheduling appropriate activities.
Ability to maintain educational record keeping systems.
Sensitivity to individual and group needs of adults and children in target area; knowledge of family dynamics.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, communicate, and problem-solve appropriately with children, parents, staff and public.
Enrollment in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO) with a Step 8 or higher.
Current Food Handler's card.
OCC approved health and safety training within 30 days of hire.
Must have or obtain Blood Borne Pathogen training and infant/child First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
Completion of Staff Health Appraisal showing approval by licensed medical provider for work in an early childhood setting within 30 days of hire, including a TB screening.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
The incumbent must also successfully complete a criminal background check screening from the Oregon Child Care, Early Learning Division, and be deemed fit for duty at placement and while serving in the position.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Schedule is set per Director in order to meet Center and participant needs.
This position may periodically come in contact with human bodily fluids. The ability to kneel, stoop, bend, and sit on floor is required. Must be able to rapidly survey environment and move quickly to ensure childrens' safety. The incumbent will occasionally be required to lift and carry children and equipment weighing approximately 40 pounds in a safe manner.
The incumbent must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle to conduct occasional home visits in the general Corvallis area.
