The Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Advising and Licensure Specialist position. The Department
The Department of Theory and Practice in Education includes 2 research professors, 24 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 15 clinical-track, and 6 lecture-track faculty. The department provides undergraduate majors in education and audiology and speech pathology, deaf studies, and special education with multiple minors offered. The graduate programs offered are a Master of Science with 12 concentrations, an EdS, or Specialist in Education, and a PhD with three concentrations and several specializations. The mission of TPTE is to benefit local, regional, national, and global communities by conducting research, preparing teachers, and engaging in outreach.
The Position
The Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE) is seeking an Advising and Licensure Specialist to provide leadership and expertise in the planning and management of post-baccalaureate, teacher education advising, admissions, and subsequent professional licensure for students in the department. This individual will advise and collaborate with department faculty on licensure requirements that link with course development.
In addition, this Specialist will provide comprehensive guidance to prospective teacher education candidates and confirms requirements have been met and will communicate with the TN Department of Education's TN-DOE). Additional position responsibilities include: Develops and leads orientations and induction workshops for all students aspiring to become educators including requirements for certification/licensure and the necessary steps for admissions and retention; Develops and updates all relevant program handbooks and websites related to educator preparation programs; Direct and coordinate communication among students, prospective students, faculty/staff.
