Heron School is seeking a creative and charismatic Dean of Students to help lead the development of Heron School as well as serve as a teaching lead while we grow enrollment. Further, the Dean of Students will work with the Head of School to oversee academics and student life, develop programming to address students' social/emotional needs, and serve as lead with admissions.
Housing is included as part of the compensation for this position. There is a seasonal swimming pool, a hot tub, a greenhouse, and a garden on campus. Pay is competitive and based on experience.
More about the school...
Heron School seeks to combine the characteristics of Hogwarts, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and summer camp. Heron School offers individualized, project-based curriculum developed around students' strengths and interests driven by instructional scaffolding to connect students with college-level coursework opportunities and guide students to be ready for independent college living. Heron School students struggle in the public school system setting socially, emotionally, and academically due to their unique gifts and intellectual disabilities, which is why Heron School connects students with one-on-one instruction, a smaller class size, project-based curriculum, and an educational setting with minimal external stimulation.
Ideal applicants have experience in gifted education as well as experience working with students with learning disabilities such as ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, etc. Experience developing curriculum and collaborating with partner organizations to deliver project-based learning is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with personal outdoor recreation experience (climbing, backpacking, whitewater, hiking, etc.)
