The Rockefeller University seeks an Assistant Teacher to join Child and Family Center. In cooperation with the Head Teacher and other team members, the Assistant Teacher will establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children, teachers, and parents. Responsibilities include setting an organizational and emotional tone for the room that is responsive to children, parents, and teachers, assessing the educational and developmental needs of each child, planning and implementing a curriculum that will enhance the development of the children in all areas (cognitive, physical, social, emotional), with an awareness of the needs of each child, promoting positive and productive relationships with parents, between parents, and between parents and other staff, and educating and supporting parents as necessary. The Teacher will approach issues and problems professionally and self-reflectively, work cooperatively with colleagues, and attend staff meetings, professional conferences, and engage in ongoing staff development. Must enjoy working with children and be able to document learning visibly throughout the classroom.
Bachelor's degree or higher preferred; educational emphasis in early childhood education or infant and family development preferred. Excellent understanding of child and adult development, strong verbal and written communication skills, interest in and knowledge of early childhood education curriculum, ability to work collaboratively with a team, good organizational and management skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
