The Assistant Teacher I supports a classroom of approximately 20 students by implementing activities and maintaining a safe, clean classroom environment that meets or exceeds OCC regulations. Duties include using classroom learning centers to implement activities with children; disinfecting toys: sweeping floors, wiping tables, chairs, shelves and cubbies and cleaning common areas a needed; supervising children throughout the classroom environment and encouraging positive behaviors; identifying potential classroom hazards; resolving conflicts; adhering to MSDE regulations and HCC policies; completing a minimum of six (6) hours of job related CEUs annually; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and complete a physical examination with a negative TB test; and be able to complete annual continuing education units as specified by the MSDE. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 lbs.; participate in physical fitness activities including walking, running, jumping, dancing as well as organized games; and to stand for at least 45 minutes in both cold and hot weather extremes.
One year of experience working with preschool children is preferred.
Work schedule is up to 20 hours per week and will vary based on the needs of the Early Learning Center, to be determined by the Center manager.
