Under limited direction, the Manager of Teacher Certification andLicensure is responsible for managing the teacher certification and licensure process for current and former students at the schools of Communication, Music and Education and Social Policy as well as the College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University.
*Please note this position requires occasional travel for state level meetings.
ADVISING & CERTIFICATION
Advises current and former students on certification issues including, but not limited to:
General certification/Licensure issues
Elementary and secondary teacher certification, standard special certification, and general administrative certification licensure requirements
Applicability of course work toward certification and licensure
Academic program advising for NU graduate and undergraduate students seeking teacher certification; also for students prior to NU admission for recruiting purposes.
Works with representatives from all NU undergraduate schools and all WCAS departments for which we offer certification to facilitate student advising and registration.
Reviews student transcripts for certification clearance for NU undergraduate students (~3 x /year/student), prospective graduate students, and all students having completed a certification program at NU.
Works with the Golden Apple Scholars, admissions office, financial aid office, and registrar's office to facilitate relationship with Golden Apple Foundation.
Maintains accurate and detailed records of all certification transactions.
Keeps informed about state certification issues and acts as a professional resource and advisor to university deans, faculty and staff on certification matters
Organizes and facilitates quarterly Certification Committee meetings to discuss certification issues as they relate to NU's certification programs.
Prepares certification review reports (Institutional Self-Study), including complete program descriptions, as required by the State of Illinois. Prepares additional reports, including statistical reports, for the State Board of Education and other external agencies as requested.
Participates in all activities of the SESP Office of Student Affairs representing the Teaching and Certification Programs.
Attends regular staff meetings and strategic goal planning sessions
Supports program related equity initiatives such as recruitment and marketing in collaboration with MSED colleagues
Ability to engage with a diverse student, staff and faculty population to promote trust, collaboration, and partnership between schools and levels of leadership.
Interest and strong desire in challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity lens
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Bachelor's degree required.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Evidence of work history involving detail oriented, data tasks preferred.
Evidence of work history involving planning and implementing new initiatives preferred.
Strong organizational skills.
Co-Experience in elementary or secondary teaching
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Master’s degree preferred.
