Members to NAGC can receive three publications -- Parenting for Gifted Children, Teaching for High Potential, and the academic journal, Gifted Child Quarterly. All are available through the mail and online.
The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky at WKU seeks qualified candidates for the position of Counselor. The Gatton Academy is a public residential STEM program, established and funded by the Kentucky legislature, on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Students complete their last two years of high school and earn at least 60 hours of college credit. This is a 10-month position and reports to the Assistant Director of Counseling Services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Provide personal and group counseling for Gatton students.
Create and deliver programming related to social/emotional health and general well-being.
Develop a supportive community among students consistent with Gatton's creed of Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Equality, and Diversity through creative educational, cultural, social, and recreational programming.
Provide leadership and supervision on Gatton study abroad trips.
Provide individual and group counseling for students to support their social and emotional health and academic success. This includes a wide variety of areas from stress-management and career counseling to students in distress.
Provide appropriate counseling, support, and referrals for students during emotional and physical crises.
Facilitate student access to campus and local agencies for physical and mental health services, as needed.
Build supportive relationships with students and their parents.
Develop, deliver, and support a wellness program to support students' general well-being.
Provide programming in collaboration with Gatton staff to assist students in transition from high school to college.
Provide programming in coordination with Gatton staff relative to the health and cohesiveness of Gatton's community, as well as in support of Gatton's creed.
Provide programming for parents to assist them in supporting their students.
Administrative or Managerial Functions
Evaluate wellness and mental health programming.
Evaluate utilization rates of counseling services.
Communicate with parents in support of Academy students.
Maintain all regulatory standards regarding confidentiality and reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Effective counseling skills specific to supporting gifted and talented adolescents.
Effective leadership, mentorship, and organizational skills.
Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Counselor Educator, from an accredited institution of higher education or CACREP/ACA/APA-accredited program.
Licensed or license eligible in Kentucky. May be a licensed LCPA in Kentucky. Supervision toward LPCC may be arranged.
Experience counseling adolescents.
Experience working with gifted and talented students.
Must be willing to work a variable schedule that includes evening hours and weekends.
Must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid driver's license.
