The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky at Western Kentucky University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director, Academic Services. The Gatton Academy is a public residential STEM high school program, established and funded by the Kentucky legislature, on the campus of WKU. Students complete their last two years of high school and earn at least 60 hours of college credit while at The Gatton Academy. This is a 12-month position and reports to the Director of the Academy.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Manage the area of Academic Services within The Gatton Academy.
Articulate the goals and vision for The Gatton Academy's academic program to all stakeholders
Oversee all aspects of Gatton's academic services including academic student support and advising, curriculum, research, internships, competitions, STEM+ Critical Languages, study abroad, etc.
Supervise professional staff members and student worker(s)
Manage division budget from annual state operating funds
Serve as liaison for university faculty and staff
Envision new programs, opportunities for growth, and refinement of services for division
Implement, monitor, and assess functions of the division, including tracking annual performance indicators for division
Develop academic services web and social media content
Manage the Gatton Academy research program.
Liaise with university faculty mentors to create research opportunities for Gatton Academy students
Facilitate students selection and pursuit of right fit research opportunities through surveys, individual advising, and research fairs
Highlight Gatton students' research participation and outcomes through web content, press releases, and an annual Gatton Student Research Showcase and WKU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Event
Serve on the WKU Student Research Council annually
Connect students to academic research conferences, meetings, and competitions
Coordinate research and internship opportunities for students around the Commonwealth
Manage the Gatton Academy's study abroad and global learning portfolio.
Enact Gatton's goal of every student having the opportunity to study abroad
Plan all aspects of every Gatton study abroad program, including student recruitment, administrative and paperwork requirements, staffing, travel arrangements, paying expenditures, etc.
Liaise with faculty teaching each credit-bearing study abroad program
Lead the Gatton Academy Need-Based Study Abroad Scholarship committee
Oversee the study abroad budget and account for every expenditure for each study abroad program
Collaborate with various university departments and student service offices
Travel on study abroad programs providing on-site leadership and oversight
Develop programming to enhance learning experiences for Gatton Academy students.
Recruit and admit students to each STEM + language track
Collaborate with faculty for language assessments and placements for STEM + tracks
Create programming for STEM + Talks series
Plan and lead Unwrapping with the Arts program in Louisville to expand students' integration of arts with STEM
Manage student support for nationally competitive research and scholarship opportunities.
Inform students and parents of national scholarship opportunities in multiple ways
Provide intensive, personal advising for Goldwater, SMART, NSLI-Y, and other national scholarships, including mock interviews
Serve as part of the Gatton leadership team and as a college application process advisor for students.
Perform other duties as assigned
