Members to NAGC can receive three publications -- Parenting for Gifted Children, Teaching for High Potential, and the academic journal, Gifted Child Quarterly. All are available through the mail and online.
Under supervision of the Director, the Teacher/Child Development Supervisor (CDS) provides management and supervision of an early childhood classroom at the SIUE Early Childhood Center (ECC). In conjunction with the SIUE School of Education, Health and Human Behavior, ECC classrooms may serve as an academic training site for current students in the Early Childhood and other programs. With a co-Teacher/CDS, Teachers train and supervise classroom staff including Graduate Teaching Assistants, Undergraduate Student Assistants (student employees) and student teaching staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and programming according to Early Childhood Center (ECC) guidelines, State of Illinois Early Learning Standards, State Licensing and NAEYC (national accreditation) criteria. Teachers-CDS observe and assess individual and group learning experiences to ensure best practice and an anti-bias curriculum and are also responsible for ensuring that the classroom co-teaching team provides a safe and nurturing environment for children and facilitates the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of all children assigned to the classroom. Teachers/Child Development Supervisors share in the production of a comprehensive child care program which has impact on all constituencies of the university as well as the general public.
The Early Childhood Center (ECC), located on the Edwardsville campus of SIUE, provides full-day, year-round early childhood care and education for the children of students, faculty, staff, and others in the University community, ages two through five. The ECC’s state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot green building has five classrooms and a large natural outdoor play space.
The ECC program is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), has a 4-star rating from the Illinois Quality Rating System (QRS), a Gold Circle of Quality through IL ExceleRate and is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). 1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education OR A degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education with experience teaching pre-school age children. 2. Illinois Early Childhood Teaching Licensure or Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Early Childhood Credential Level 5.
