Position Summary The School of Packaging (www.packaging.msu.edu) in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking qualified applicants for two Instructor positions. These are 100% time, academic year (9 month) fixed-term position with a teaching /service (90%/10%) assignment that begin August 2021. The contract is renewable annually for up to three years. TEACHING (90%) Teach core and elective undergraduate and graduate packaging classes that leverage broad ranging expertise focused on packaging. Areas of teaching will leverage a broad experience related to consumer goods packaging. Potential class topics include the areas of: packaging materials and processes, package design, as well as supply chain issues having to do with the value chain and distribution dynamics. Coverage of these topics could range from introductory level to project-based applications with external clients. Instructors will be expected to engage, inspire and support all learners (from packaging students to professionals) to ensure learning objectives are met. Learning outcomes will be measured through the use and assessment of various pedagogical strategies which engage learners with a breadth of learning styles while fostering a sense of student belonging to both the School and the discipline of Packaging. Active learning strategies and effective pedagogical methods are a must for this position. SERVICE/CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT (10%) Candidate will provide instruction for non-degree and continuing education learners, as well as industry professionals. The ideal candidate will provide and deliver novel, forward thinking content for all levels of learner. As faculty advisor for student led groups, the candidate will mentor student leadership and provide support and oversight as well as liaise with industry and other academic partners to enrich the student experience. Participate in School governance per by-laws; Example of such activity include: engagement with the curriculum committee. Curricular development should be inclusive of recent research and reflective of current industry needs and trends. Required Degree Masters -Packaging, Engineering, Material Science Minimum Requirements Candidates must have the following qualifications: a) MS/MA/MBA in Packaging, Engineering, Material Science, Environmental Science, Education, Business or similar and b) have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with packaging or teaching in a related STEM field. Desired Qualifications and/or PhD Experience with and teaching in Packaging preferred. Candidate should have general experiences which enable diverse learners to develop technical knowledge related to a variety of different packaging topics. Industry experience and the ability to relate these experiences to course topics is preferred.
