The College of Education has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Teacher Candidate Recruitment and Support Specialist in the area of Teacher Education. The Recruitment and Support Specialist works across Teacher Education programs to increase the number of outstanding, highly qualified applicants for its masters level teacher education programs. The Recruitment and Support Specialist will work on a team with a full time Retention and Support Specialist. Recruitment is focused particularly in content areas that are both highly sought after by employers and are consistently under-enrolled. The Recruitment and Support Specialist will have responsibility for cultivating outreach opportunities and providing direct outreach to potential teacher candidates. In addition the position will build partnerships that foster recruitment efforts and support candidates both inside and outside the UW. This position will work with the Office of Student Services to provide information and guidance to prospective and current graduate level teacher candidates (Master of Education and Master in Teaching) concerning program entry and degree requirements, procedures, and resources.
Competitive candidates will possess the demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and ever-changing team-oriented environment organized around functions important to the College and the ability to articulate the reasons behind their dedication and commitment to the professional development of graduate level teacher candidates. Inherent to success in this position is the ability to be innovative and collaborative, as well as a self-starter who constantly looks for opportunities to better serve applicants, students, and faculty through enhanced services. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Teacher Education.
Assess the current candidate recruitment system and work closely with the Assistant Dean for Teacher Education to address identified needs;
Cultivate contacts with, and actively reach out to, prospective graduate students in order to recruit for teacher certification programs supporting candidates seeking endorsements in Elementary K-8, Secondary content areas and Special Education (MIT and MEd);
Respond to programmatic questions from prospective graduate students through individual consultation, workshops, and printed materials;
Develop and track recruitment goals and benchmarks for the teacher certification programs;
Work with the Office of Institutional Research and Office of Student Services to maintain and use teacher education data in the recruitment database;
Work with the Office of Student Services and individual teacher education programs to plan, coordinate, promote, and implement teacher education information sessions for prospective students;
Work closely with the Teacher Education Program Academic Advisor in the Office of Student Services to articulate and manage an effective system of supporting students through the application process;
Collaborate with Seattle Teacher Residency recruitment team and Office of Student Services team to coordinate recruitment and outreach activities;
Develop and maintain relationships with organizations and offices, both on campus and off campus, that can support recruitment and retention efforts;
Assume shared responsibility for assessing and modifying/updating web site content related to recruitment and retention;
Complete other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree and two years experience working with students in an advisory capacity.
Knowledge of effective recruiting and retention practices to increase diversity, as well as the ability to develop and implement new initiatives in this area.
Deep knowledge of public schools, the field of P-12 public school teaching and teacher education.
Demonstrated ability to use relational databases, web-based technologies, and an ability to integrate these technologies into educational and student-support environments.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills, including experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); use of the web; email.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Familiarity with policies and procedures of the University of Washington and/or the UW College of Education.
Experience as an academic advisor.
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
Sensitivity and ability to handle highly confidential information.
