The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for the Early Outreach Program Assistant to assist in planning and implementing youth programs and educational enrichment for diverse audiences. The programs include summer camps, group visits, conferences, mentoring programs, workshops, etc. This position will require extensive logistic and program planning, on and off-campus. The successful candidate will possess exceptional Microsoft computer skills to manage event data, details, and communication.
The Program Assistant will work with students from diverse backgrounds and implement age-appropriate educational programming. Program participants include Iowa multicultural or first generation or low-income students, as well as talented and gifted students in grades 3rd- 12th grade from across the nation. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions- Early Outreach, the individual in this position will be required to live in the residence halls during two week-long residential camps in the month of July for OPPTAG (a program for Talented and Gifted high school students). The program assistant will need to adhere to risk management guidelines for youth.
Responsibilities also include identifying, recruiting, selecting, training, motivating and supervising undergraduate student volunteers, interns, and instructors. The capacity to work as a team member in a fast-paced workplace is required. Other duties will include conducting enrollment presentations and counseling prospective students and families as a member of the Admissions staff. The duties of this position require willingness to work occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends to assist with programs and outreach activities. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking or presentation skills.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Special Required Qualifications
Valid U.S. Driver's License
Experience with short-term and long-term, detailed oriented program planning. Experience working in a student services area or educational enrichment program. Experience working with adolescents from multicultural or first generation or low income backgrounds. Experience working with high ability students and their family members. Experience recruiting and motivating staff or volunteers. Experience conducting one-on-one and group presentations.
