Summary of Position: The Director of Strategy and Influence is responsible for directing Mills Teacher Scholars Influence Strategy as well as directing marketing, communications, and evaluation.
Essential Job Functions
1) Develop and implement key strategy initiatives and evaluation
In collaboration with executive director, develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcomes of Mills Teacher Scholars 5-Year Strategy
In collaboration with executive director, develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement.
In collaboration with executive director and marketing and design consultants, develop 2-year visibility strategy to grow Mills Teacher Scholars influence across the state of California.
Key activities of Influence Strategy and Evaluation work
Attend and support planning of marketing and influence strategy portion of quarterly management retreats
Co-plan follow up on quarterly meetings with marketing consultant to determine workflow, course marketing calendar, editorial calendar, content generation plan
Direct social media strategy development and implementation
Co-plan and facilitate monthly marketing sessions with program directors and executive director including analytics tracking
In collaboration with executive director, design formative and summative evaluation tasks for the purpose of identifying program strengths and areas for growth, as well as for supporting our partner schools/districts to identify their strengths and areas of growth related to adult learning.
Communicate evaluation results to Mills Teacher Scholars staff and to partner schools/districts.
2) Coordinate events and general marketing
Key activities for directing events and marketing
Lead monthly meetings with Network partner director for course recruitment
Coordinate work with marketing and design consultants and Mills Teacher Scholars staff on playbook publishing and marketing, including
Development of 2 videos to enhance the visibility of the Creating the Conditions work visible and support playbook marketing/district partnerships
Development of content and agendas for 1-hour, half day and webinar format
Creation of new templates in new email marketing program
Coordinating a minimum of 5 presentations to districts and county offices on Creating the Conditions
Coordinating follow up efforts with interested districts
Coordinate work with marketing and design consultants and Mills Teacher Scholars staff including:
course marketing content
digital and print assets to support marketing
distribution plan for flyer
Forum marketing plan and implementation
Conduct quarterly check in with web consultants re upgrades, content upgrades
implement online course creation for Creating the Conditions Certificate
coordinate district presentations
4) Support course creation and facilitation
Key activities for supporting course creation and facilitation
In collaboration with Director of Network Partnerships, further develop Mills Teacher Scholars Certification in Adult Learning, including
an on-line certification course
criteria for certification
Facilitate a minimum of 10 courses that support leaders of adult learning (district leads, principals, instructional coaches, etc.) to create the conditions for adult learning in service of equity
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Education and Training
Minimum of an MA or MS
At least 6 years of experience in teaching, three of those in a team management or professional learning role
Minimum of 2 years of experience facilitating with Mills Teacher Scholars Inquiry work
Minimum of 2 years experience creating, developing and publishing curriculum
Transparent and high integrity leadership exhibiting personal integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Mills Teacher Scholars mission
Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
Ability to work with a high degree of independence and collaboration
Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems
Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control and performance
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
Strong public speaking ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Work involves considerable sitting time at desk/computer, but also entails moving about the building and campus to obtain/deliver materials and meet with people
Much of the work is conducted in a busy area; interruptions and interactions with others are common, especially when school is in session
It is occasionally necessary to lift or move somewhat heavy or awkward items
Responsibilities entail occasional evening or weekend hours
Deadlines are a routine part of the work
