UC Irvine School of Education Lecturer in Secondary Teacher Preparation - Culture, Diversity and Educational Equity
The UC Irvine School of Education seeks applicants for temporary, part-time lecturer position in 2019-2020 to teach a course in the Master of Arts in Teaching + Single Subject Credential Program. Generally, part-time lecturer positions are offered for one quarter at a time and at varying percentages of time, depending on the number and nature of courses assigned. This 4-unit course is scheduled for 3 hours once a week and one section will be offered.
Course Description: ED 347 Culture, Diversity and Educational Equity: Survey of the history of and social theories about the origins and consequences of U.S. racial, gender, and social inequality, and the effects of poverty and racism on the educational opportunities and outcomes of minority groups in the United States. This course is designed to encourage pre-service teachers to reflect upon the ideological assumptions and cultural frameworks that govern how we identify and educate youth along social axes of oppression, power, and privilege.
Service Period Dates for 2019-2020: Fall Quarter: 9/23/19 - 12/13/19
Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree, a record of successful teaching experience, demonstrated expertise in the content of the course to be taught. Relevant experience may be considered.
Desired Qualifications: A doctoral degree in a field related to the course to be taught. Teaching at University level; experience in digital learning technologies and use of Canvas as a learning management system.
Annual full-time salaries will begin at a base rate of $54,738.
Cover letter must state the following: a) an explanation of your qualifications to teach the course and b) your availability to teach during the week (Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday) and/or day or evening.
