Members to NAGC can receive three publications -- Parenting for Gifted Children, Teaching for High Potential, and the academic journal, Gifted Child Quarterly. All are available through the mail and online.
The Outreach Teacher (Early Interventionist) will travel in Davidson County working with families with children ages birth to 3 years old with developmental disabilities. You will be coaching and engaging parents in home visits and supporting parents' learning of strategies that can be used in the home within their daily routines for the specific developmental disability that the children have. With this, you will develop and maintain positive relationships with parents while interacting with parents in a friendly, professional manner.
For nearly four decades, the Susan Gray School has served young children with developmental disabilities and young children who are at risk for developmental delay. The school has the distinction of being the first nationally recognized inclusive preschool where typically developing children learn alongside children with disabilities in an educational setting. This is a full-time, exempt term position lasting six months up to one year.*
Duties and Responsibilities
Schedules and completes home visits according to family's needs and IFSP requirements
Ensure that visits with families are conducted according to TEIS/DHS processes and procedures
Ensure that TEIDS entries are completed according to TEIS/DHS processes and procedures
Completes AEPS assessments per child according to IFSP deadlines
Individualizes behavior intervention strategies and instructions of children based on needs and developmentally appropriate practices.
Consistently meets requirements for timely filing of documentation as required
Participates in IFSP/IEP development and meetings upon request
Collects data on progress towards individual goals developed by educational team
Meets all mandated continuing education requirements
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's (required) or Master's (preferred) in early childhood special education, early childhood education, child and family studies with concentration on child development, early intervention, or related field (related field includes degree in deaf education or visual disabilities, special education k-12, elementary education, communication disorders, and speech language pathology)
Resumes and transcripts required.
Experience working with children ages birth to 3 years with disabilities is required.
One-on-one experience working with families is a plus.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.
*A term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year.
