The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education – Child Development Center at Ohio University invites applicants for a Substitute Master Teacher position to cover the leave period of a current employee. Candidates should have experience teaching children ages birth to 5 years old, as well as preferred experience working with professional interns (student teachers). The successful applicant will bring strong qualifications, be reliable and possess a positive attitude.

Teach and supervise young children from diverse backgrounds
Supervise and assess Professional Interns and lab students
Plan curricular activities
Participate in field testing of innovative curriculum materials and teaching strategies
Work in tandem with co-Master Teacher
Work with families The Master Teachers have overall responsibility of the classroom and acts as a coordinator of activities and daily planning.Duties:
Plan and execute daily activities for children in cooperation with co-master teacher
Follow the State of Ohio Early Learning Content Standards and the Ohio Infant and Toddler Guidelines
Use the Brigance Early Childhood Screens and other observation strategies to document each child's development
Use children's assessments, classroom meetings and parent and teacher input to develop curriculum in the classroom
Maintain classroom portfolio, attendance and tracking sheets
Maintain classroom daily journals
Represent classroom at staff meetings to share ideas, experiences and concerns
Attend and participate in Reggio Meetings
Work cooperatively with parents to establish a consensus of what should be expected of their child and encourage communication with parents through regular parent-teacher classroom meeting, parent conferences and home visits
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the classroom environment
Provide a safe, warm, stimulating classroom environment
Submits reports on time
Able to work with small groups and individual children while supervising the whole group
Able to prioritize what is important to do first in the classroom and what can be done later
Has working knowledge of computers
Supervises students on a daily basis
Able to recognize one's successes and failures and reasons for them
Conducts parent semester meetings with co-Master Teacher and Professional Interns
Keeps classroom clean and organized and monitors sanitation schedule
Displays an ongoing desire to learn
Responds to children, families and students with warmth, friendliness and humor
Able to make thoughtful, quick decisions as needed
Meets with Professional Interns and co-Master Teacher once a week
Shares responsibility with co-Master Teacher to meet with each Professional Intern each week to answer questions, go over evaluations and talk about their growth and development
Talks with parents each day
Able to work with and relate to children, staff and parents from diverse backgrounds
Meets with families of each child twice a year to discuss progress and goals for the year using the Brigance Early Childhood Screens and other observation tools.
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field;
Experience working with and supervising young children from diverse backgrounds;
Successful completion of FBI and BCII background checks and medical exam.
Experience supervising professional interns and lab students from diverse backgrounds;
Experience with Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
