The Department of Biology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a non-tenure track "Teacher-Scholar Faculty Fellow" at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, starting August 2019. The position is intended for a recent Ph.D. recipient and/or post-doctoral fellow in Biology.
The successful candidate should be interested in pursuing an academic career at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) where teaching and research are both valued and integrated. The position is offered for two consecutive years (pending successful performance during year 1), and it is funded in part by a grant to TCNJ from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) through the Science Education Program.

The selected Teacher-Scholar Fellow will work closely with experienced faculty mentors gaining professional development in inclusive pedagogy, course design, grant proposal writing, and student mentoring. The Fellow will have an opportunity to develop an independent research program involving undergraduates, gain teaching experience, and receive mentoring toward attainment of a full-time, tenure-track position. The Fellow will have an office, shared research lab space, and access to state-of-the-art, shared-use instrumentation and facilities (electron, confocal, and epifluorescent microscopy, qPCR, NanoDrop, High-performance Computing, greenhouse, etc.). For field biologists, there are numerous potential study sites near campus. The position includes funding for research supplies, for participation in TCNJ's summer research experience for undergraduates program during Summer 2020, and for professional travel to scientific/professional development conferences.
Teaching responsibilities will include an introductory course, a sophomore-level course in genetics, and a senior-level seminar course. There may also be the opportunity to develop a course in the applicant's area of expertise. The Fellow will associate with an existing faculty member(s) who will serve as the Fellow's mentor(s).
