Summer Program Teachers
UCLA Lab School seeks passionate and dedicated teachers who can inspire and nurture a love of learning for our Summer Program. We work with children ages 4-12 (the equivalent of Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6). Our sports camp is an afternoon program that runs from June 17 to July 19, Monday thru Friday. Hours are 8:00-12:00 for the morning program and 11:30 to 3:30. Our morning program provides a boost in science, math, reading, writing, social studies and art, all in the context of a nurturing, caring and fun environment. In the afternoon program our children learn all kinds of fun physical activities, including: sports, indoor and outdoor games, and movement.
Part of the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, UCLA Lab School has established a reputation for innovative practice over its 125+ year history and provides a stimulating and supportive working environment for teachers.
Qualifications: We look for evidence of expertise and leadership in inquiry-based teaching including experience with teaching in a self-contained classroom or physical education including adaptive PE strategies. Ability to create classroom environments that welcome students and spark wonder and curiosity is required. Candidates should have had at least five or more years of experience working as a constructivist educator at the elementary level. Training and proficiency with coding and robotics expected for particular positions. Experience working at UCLA Lab School preferred. A multiple subject teaching credential is preferred. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: Our teachers teach in a team environment in a progressive, multi-age setting. Teachers are expected to design and implement inquiry based curriculum incorporating hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking in all students while fostering each individuals' social/emotional growth around peer interactions and conflict resolution. Teachers must be able to work in partnership with families to promote the growth and development of children. We work to support the whole child with an emphasis on social/emotional development.
