Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesVassar College invites qualified applicants for the position of Co-Teacher of the Infant Program at the Infant Toddler Center (ITC). This is a temporary position through June 30, 2019.
The Infant Program Co-Teacher provides direct care to 6 infants (age range 6 weeks to 18 months). This position provides nurturing and responsive care giving and engages in consistent and ongoing interaction and developmentally appropriate practices with infants or young toddlers throughout the day. The Co-Teacher is responsible for being aware and complying with licensing, health and safety regulations at all times.
Comfort infants and toddlers throughout the day;
Feed or assist infants and assist toddlers during meals or snacks, including supervision of eating (attention to choking hazards, assistance with utensils, etc.);
Engage, respond and assist infants and toddlers in play and early social interactions (assisting with peer conflicts, naps, play etc);
Conduct and participate in outdoor walks. This includes supervision and support to children engaged in gross motor play;
Engage with parents formally and informally regarding development of their children;
Provide direction and supervision to college students learning to work with infants and toddlers;
Other duties as assigned by the Site Director.
Qualifications Qualifications: A minimum of an Associate's degree in Child Education, Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred; Two to five years' of experience in an early child care/education setting required; Infant and child CPR certification is required; Must be able to detect, observe and respond quickly to toddlers or infants in order to support their needs in gross motor situations, conflict resolution etc.; Must be able to assess and address the various and rapidly changing needs of children and be able to effectively multi-task; Must be able to work collaboratively and professionally with staff, parents and college students; Consistent and punctual in attendance; Must be able to keep accurate records of each infant's or toddler's diapering, toileting, napping and eating schedule as well as be able to offer comments or information to parents and other teachers about the general activity patterns throughout the day; Ability to move and operate strollers; Ability to move and comfort infants throughout the day; Must be able to remain in stationary position and position self to move quickly to respond and assist; Must be able to successfully meet all NYS background-check requirements.
