Job Summary: The Department of Statistics and Probability at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for up to three continuing teaching specialists with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2017. Successful candidates will work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop, coordinate, and teach statistics courses for undergraduate students, will help to develop and deploy assessments of student learning outcomes, will mentor and supervise graduate assistants and instructors, and will join a large and active group of teaching faculty focused on excellence in service course instruction in the mathematical sciences. Depending on candidate expertise and interests, advising students in the growing undergraduate major in Statistics may also be part of the position, and the course and program-development portion of an assignment may be substantial. MSU is embarking on a multi-year initiative to improve student-learning and success in gateway courses in the mathematical sciences, including courses in the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Statistics and Probability. This exciting initiative, in which the Statistics and Probability Department is a central player, draws on characteristics unique to MSU, including strong commitments from the mathematical sciences actors and their allies across campus, including the faculty and students in the top-ranked Program in Mathematics Education. Successful candidates for this search will be central to this work and will have the opportunity to provide leadership in curriculum development and pedagogy.
Minimum Requirements: Candidates must have a Master's or PhD degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related field, demonstrated instructional excellence in introductory statistics, and knowledge of or experience with student-centered pedagogical methods.
