Developing Effective State Policies for Gifted Education

Candidate will work with the Head Start Program in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health, Mailman School of Public Health. Incumbent will promote the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of Head Start children leading to positive outcomes as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards.
The candidate will work collaborative with parents in planning curriculum, facilitating parental involvement in all aspects of the program; provide a safe and supervised educational setting for children in the classroom, outdoor play area, field trips, etc.
The candidate will develop individual goals for children, provide ongoing assessment on progress, adapt and implement curriculum based on assessment, and facilitate transition into kindergarten.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must have: a BA or Advance Degree in Early Childhood Education; or a BA or an Advanced Degree in any subject and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, computer (e.g. proficiency in Microsoft Word Office site programs, etc.).
Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish required. Must obtain Pediatric First Aid certificate within first 6 months of employment.
Must have 1 year of teaching experience in early childhood settings. Some heavy lifting, i.e. preschool children, cots, required.
BENEFITS FOR THIS POSITION WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE NEW YORK CITY HEAD START MANAGEMENT WELFARE FUND. THIS POSITION WILL NOT RECEIVE COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY BENEFITS.
